The physiotherapy department Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia was started by the white missionaries working with Nigerian attendants. At their departure, it continued to offer skeletal services through attendants and sometimes physiotherapy corpers. In 1999, the first full fledged indigenous physiotherapist was employed by the then Medical Director, Dr. Ugbam. Presently the department has staff strength of seven physiotherapists comprising of a deputy director and six chief physiotherapists with four support staff.
The department offers skilled services in a friendly and courteous manner for a variety of Neuromusculoskeletal issues in areas ranging from Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Neurology, to Surgery and Women’s health /0&G.
We are equipped with State of the art Shortwave, Ultrasound and Electrical stimulator and a Minigym.
