First Kidney Transplant: Thursday 7th December And Friday 8th December 2017

First Kidney Transplant

The Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, today successfully carried out first kidney transplant in the Southeast, free of charge for two patients.

The decision taken by the Management of the Centre to offer kidney transplant services would positively improve the quality of life of the patients, and provide affordable kidney transplantation in Nigeria.

The MD, Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Dr. Abali Chuku has expressed the enthusiasm of the kidney transplant team to sustain the program and the willingness of the Management to continue to support both the donors and recipients for one year.

He hinted that the desire of the FMC renal transplant program is to perform forty (40) kidney transplant within the first quarter and last quarter of the year 2018.
